Player of the Year candidates for OUA women's basketball

The best of the best. The top individual performance in the OUA over the course of a season. We're going to talk about the top four OUA Player of the Year candidates for women's basketball.

Jacqueline Urban - Carleton

You can say Jacqueline is the best forward in the OUA, and in the 2025 season she might be the best at any position in the league. How she's able to read the floor and know where she has to be, and the fluidity of her footwork when she has the ball makes her a nightmare to keep down on the floor.

She can shut the paint down defensively with her rebounding and positioning, and she can extend the floor offensively with her three-pointer accompanying her skillset around the rim.

She is a U SPORTS and OUA Rookie of the Year, a U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian and a U SPORTS First Team All-Star. She's won two national championships starting every game she's played over her three years, and her fourth looks to be even better with her growing role on a perennially contending team.

Madalyn Weinert - Brock

She's won this award the past two years so it only makes sense she is once again in this conversation. Every year it seems like Madalyn finds a way to improve. After her stellar rookie season she came back with an improved arsenal and command offensively. Going into her third year you saw her defensive impact growing alongside her offence and ever since she's been among the top five in almost every statistical category in the OUA.

Coming off a summer with national team experience playing for Canada at Globl Jam, her game seems as polished as ever. She's the leader for the Badgers and the stage never seems too big. She has everything set to have another big year adding to her already storied OUA career and I don't see a reason she won't be talked about amongst the countries elite when we get to February like we have throughout her career so far.

Kiyara Letlow - Queen's

Kiyara's move to the Queen's Gaels in the summer makes too much sense from a scheme perspective, and the more I think about it the more I am confident she will pick up right where she left off at Cape Breton dominating inside the paint. The Gaels for much of the last five plus years have had a forward who they could let go one on one with any matchup, win the boards and get second chances, now they have one of the best forwards in the country.

The screen and roll game, the high low play, the offensive rebounding, what Kiyara can do going downhill and with her back to the basket is proven in her years in the AUS. You give her the ball and you let her go to work. On the defensive end she is one of the best rebounders in the country and she is a player you don't have to send help to because she will go toe to toe with anyone and she's efficient enough to get the job done.

Myriam Kone - TMU

Myriam Kone goes from the University of Calgary to TMU for the 2025-2026 season. Joining a team with great point guards and great depth inside the paint, adding a player who can create off the dribble and play as the two guard with as much versatility as Kone has seems to be a perfect fit. If you watched TMU during the preseason, Kone hasn't needed much adjustment time to get her dynamic play everyone saw at Calgary going. Her ability to create her own shot on the offensive end and her effort at all times on defence makes her a nightmare to go against on the court.

Kone adds a different level to TMU's offence and an energy on defence. In a system where she will have plenty of opportunity to play off the catch, it's hard to see her game doing anything other than flourishing.
