The Western Mustangs once again showed off their offensive firepower on Saturday night, rolling past the Ottawa Gee-Gees with a dominant 55-29 victory.

Both teams needed time to find their rhythm, trading early touchdowns before Ottawa added a rouge to go ahead 8-7 after the first.

The second quarter was an offensive explosion for the Mustangs. Mustangs quarterback Evan Hillock kicked things off by connecting with his favourite target, Seth Robertson, for his first of two touchdowns.

A collection of Gee-Gee turnovers, including an interception and a sack & fumble, would give the Mustangs the advantage they needed.

Western’s backup and short-yardage quarterback Jérôme Rancourt, and running back Ethan Dolby each found the end zone, giving the Mustangs a 20-point advantage at the half

Ottawa’s quarterback Josh Janssen had a strong night through the air, briefly keeping his team within striking distance.

The Gee-Gees would add two more touchdowns in the third via passes to Thomas Frizzarin and Emyl Gregoire, trading scores with the Mustangs and cutting the deficit to 16 entering the fourth.

But unfortunately for the garnet and grey, that would be the end of their scoring output.

From there, Dolby would slam the door shut on Ottawa, adding his third rushing touchdown of the night, and seventh on the young season, best in the country.
