Falconi hat trick leads Queen’s to 57–5 rout of York

The Queen’s Gaels rolled past the York Lions on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 57–5 victory and improving their record to (4–2) on the season.

After a slow start that saw only a field goal from Queen’s, the Gaels broke loose late in the first quarter when receiver Russell Weir exploded for a monster touchdown run.

A safety added to the lead, giving the Gaels a 12–0 advantage after one.

To kick off the second, running back Jared Chisari powered through the defence for his 21st career rushing touchdown, tying him for sixth all-time in Gaels history. York would manage a safety, but Queen’s responded in quick succession. Receiver Nathan Falconi found the end zone for the first of his three scores in the afternoon.

Before receiver Cedric Smith added another late score, following a Keegan Vanek interception. At halftime, it was all Gaels, 33–2.

The offensive avalanche continued in the third. Nathan Falconi would strike again for a touchdown, and an added field goal for each team would have the score at 43-5 to end the third. Unfortunately for York fans that would be the end of their offensive output for the day.

In the final frame, Queen’s put York to bed. Chisari added another rushing major before Falconi completed his hat trick, sealing a dominant 57–5 victory for the Gaels.

A game that never seemed in reach, the Gaels continue to prove they are a top team in the conference.

They move to (4-2) on the season and will travel to Guelph next week to take on the (2-4) Gryphons. The York Lions drop to (2-3), and will meet the (1-5) Waterloo Warriors next Saturday.
