The Western Mustangs stayed perfect on the season, improving to 5–0 with a commanding 52–22 win over the McMaster Marauders.
The game started like most Mustang games have this season, slowly. After both teams traded field goals to open the scoring, Western quarterback Evan Hillock would find wide receiver Brayden Misseri for his first of two scores in the afternoon. An added rouge would give the Mustangs a 11-3 advantage heading into the 2nd.
Another dominant quarter by Western followed. McMaster started the frame by conceding a safety, before Mustang backup quarterback Jérôme Rancourt subbed on and ran in for a score, his first of three.
Western then conceded a safety, but would answer immediately. Linebacker Angelo Longo picked off a tipped pass and returned the ball for a touchdown, giving the purple and white a 27-5 lead.
McMaster finally broke through with a touchdown of their own, but a late Brian Garrity field goal had the Mustangs up 30–12 at half.
The purple and white didn’t slow down after the break. Following a McMaster field goal, Misseri hauled in his second score to restore momentum. Rancourt added another rushing major before the end of the third, extending the lead to 44–15.
Both sides traded touchdowns in the final quarter, with Jerome Rancourt capping off his night on a third rushing TD. The Mustangs walked away with a decisive 52–22 win. Reinforcing their spot at the top of the OB rankings.
Next week, (5-0) Western will travel to Windsor to take on the (3-2) Lancers, and McMaster will travel to Toronto and play against the (1-5) Varsity Blues.
