The undefeated Queen’s women’s basketball team puts their perfect record on the line Friday night against Toronto Metropolitan University, in one of the most anticipated matchups on the U SPORTS schedule this year.
With star power on both sides, elite efficiency on offence, as well as championship pedigree, Friday’s matchup shapes up to be a potential postseason preview. It’s a major test for the unbeaten Queen’s Gaels, and TMU is ready for the challenge.
By the Numbers
- Queen’s: 17–0 (Conference Play), #2 Ranked in U SPORTS Top 10.
- TMU: 14–2 (Conference Play), #6 Ranked in the U SPORTS Top 10
- All-Time Head to Head: Queen’s leads 58–33
- Last Matchup: TMU defeated Queen's, 58-56, Jan. 24, 2025
Stars to Watch
Queen’s continues to be driven by the recent transfer of Kiyara Letlow, one of the most productive players in U SPORTS history. Letlow ranks sixth in the country for total scoring this season (290 points in 17 games) and second overall in rebounding (205), anchoring the Gaels at both ends of the floor.
TMU counters with Myriam Kone, who has been elite this year. Kone sits fourth nationally in total scoring with 304 points across 15 games, while shooting 43% from the field. She is the focal point of the Bold offence.
Team Statistics
Queen’s has been one of the most efficient offensive teams in U SPORTS all season. The Gaels rank:
2nd in points per game (80.3)
1st in field goal percentage (44.3%)
1st in three-point percentage (34.9%)
TMU, on the other hand, is not far behind. The Bold rank:
5th in field goals made per game (28.4)
5th in field goal percentage (42.1%)
4th in blocks per game (4.7)
Program Excellence
Both teams are familiar with March basketball.
Queen’s: 2022 U SPORTS Bronze, 2023 U SPORTS Silver & OUA Silver
TMU: 2022 U SPORTS Gold, 2022 OUA Gold (2022 undefeated season)
Leadership also plays a major role. TMU head coach Carly Clarke brings a wealth of experience with a 276–128 career record at TMU, while Queen’s head coach Claire Meadows has guided the Gaels to a 113–35 overall record during her tenure. Both have built two of the most consistent programs in the country.
Those numbers reflect two teams built to score, but recent results suggest neither is invincible.
Despite the undefeated record, Queen’s has shown signs of vulnerability. The Gaels narrowly escaped Brock last weekend with a 66–64 win, needing a late defensive stand after the Badgers had a chance to win at the buzzer.
TMU, meanwhile, has just two losses on the season—both heartbreakers. A 70–67 defeat to the York Lions and a recent 90–88 loss to the Western Mustangs, with each game coming down to the final moments.
Final Thoughts
Friday’s matchup feels like March in January. With star power, elite coaching, and Final 8 ambitions on both benches, the outcome will likely be decided by late-game execution.
Get your popcorn ready, it's going to be a barn burner.
